Dr. Hurst was a valued member of our CVM community and the Class of 1985. His contributions to the college and the profession of veterinary medicine have made a lasting impact. He will continue to be remembered fondly and missed dearly.

Obituary

George Arthur "Art" Hurst, 54, of Rapidan, Virginia, passed away at his home on Friday, September 12, 2014. He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on May 24, 1960, to the late Capt. Norman R. Hurst and Patricia Anne Hurst of Rapidan, Virginia. Also surviving are his wife, Lee Austin Hurst of Rapidan, Virginia; daughter, Margaret "Maggie" Hurst of Rapidan, Virginia; sons, Norman Reynolds Hurst and financee, Arielle Estes, of West Virginia, and Thomas Glenn Hurst of Rapidan, Virginia; brother, Michael Hurst and wife, Carle, of New Mexico; uncle, Stanley Johnson and wife, Shelby; cousins, Greg Johnson, Steve Johnson, April Briese, Linda Johnson and David Johnson; and nieces and nephews, Helen Hurst, Rebecca Hurst, James Hurst and Philip Hurst.

He was a beloved husband, father and devoted son. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to Emanuel Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, Rapidan, Virginia. A memorial service will be on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Emanuel Episcopal Church in Rapidan. Interment will be private. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange, is in charge of arrangements.
