Dr. Upton was a valued member of our CVM community and the Class of 1988. Her contributions to the college and the profession of veterinary medicine have made a lasting impact. She will continue to be remembered fondly and missed dearly.

Obituary

UPTON Dr. BARBARA JEAN UPTON Dr. Barbara Jean Upton passed away at her home in Lafayette, New Jersey, on February 22, 2009. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Scott T. Witte; devoted mother of Nicole Elizabeth Witte and Rory Scott Witte; loving daughter of Vivian E. Upton and the late Ridgely V. Upton of Severn, Maryland; cherished sister of Leona Upton Illig of Gambrills, Maryland; and devoted daughter-in-law of Janet Witte of Rockville, Maryland.

Born in Baltimore on May 12, 1962, Dr. Upton was a long-time resident of Severn, and graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1980. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Maryland in 1984, and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1988 from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Polytechnic Institute. She practiced veterinary medicine in Maryland and in Iowa, and worked in veterinary technical services at a pharmaceutical company in North Carolina. She and her family moved to New Jersey in 2005.

A memorial service will be planned for Dr. Upton's family and friends in Maryland later in the year. In lieu of flowers, condolences may be sent to the Family of Dr. Barbara Upton, 1298 Whirlaway Ct, Gambrills, MD 21054. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, One Charles Center, 100 North Charles St., Suite 234, Baltimore, MD 21201.
